​Molly Morpeth Canaday Award, Painting and Drawing, is presented by Arts Whakatāne and exhibition partner, Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre.

This annual non-acquisitive award is dedicated to excellence across contemporary and traditional painting and drawing genres. The award has developed over 30 years and sits credibly within the New Zealand arts community. A high standard of work is selected to form the exhibition from nation wide entries by three pre-selection judges working independently.

For participants, the award offers professional development opportunities to artists by showcasing their practice to peers, collectors, critics, museum curators, the media and the community at large.

Dates:
Entries Open: 21 August 2020
Entries Close: 6 December 2020, 5pm

Exhibition dates: Saturday 13  February – Sunday 4 April 2021

Location: Te Kōputu a te whanga a Toi - Whakatāne Library and Exhibition Centre

  • Akel Award Runner up Award $4,000
  • Arts Whakatāne & Jacqui Hughes Third Prize Award $3,000
  • Craigs Investment Partners Youth Art Award $2,500
  • Robinson Law Highly Commended Award $1,000
  • Merit Awards x 5 x $500

Pre-selection judges: Hanahiva Rose, Natasha Matila-Smith and Francis McWhannell
